On The Farm (2015)

1980 - Vancouver – Downtown - East Side - a densely populated, violent place - a ghetto of the drug addicted, impoverished and disenfranchised.  Though violence is a fact of life here – for over two decades another shadow hung over the Lower East Side with as many as 50 women reported missing between 1978 and 2001. Fifty daughters, sisters, wives and mothers to those who loved them but to the government and police these missing women were of virtually no interest - women ignored because they were considered the detritus of society: native, crack addicted sex workers.

Finally, in 2007 a local pig farmer named Willie Pickton was caught, tried and imprisoned for life for the murders of 6 women. While in prison he claimed he was responsible for the disappearance and murder of as many as 49 women.

On The Farm is a cutting edge drama about a small army of people from all walks of life who exerted the pressure that led to the capture of one of history’s worst serial killers.

Based on Stevie Cameron’s best-selling book it’s the tale of a drug addicted sex worker, who with a the will to survive, fights Pickton and miraculously lives to talk about it; of a teenage girl who comes to search for her missing mother; and of a pair of good cops who despite contempt and intimidation, stay on the case.
